WE PRAY FOR THE CAT

Hear our prayer for our feline friend,
Filled with hope and care and love.
For this a prayer of concern we send
Straight to our Lord above.

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That comes when we call
That greets us at the door
That gazes at us with big wide eyes
That has a favorite toy

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That has no one to go to
That stares silently out of a cage
That refuses to make eye contact
That has no toys to play with

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That teases the dog
That lies on our feet
That turns up a nose at pricey food
That gives us sweet sandy kisses

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That has never known companionship
That sleeps wherever they can
That has not eaten for days
That bites in pure panic driven defense

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That stretches out in a sunbeam
That nibbles on our toes
That hates having nails trimmed
That sleeps near our head

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That shivers in the cold
That cowers in terror
That has never been to the vets
That has no home

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That claims ownership of our lap
That knocks papers off of the table
That meows loudly at dinnertime
That brings such joy to our day

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That lives only to give birth
That has nothing to look forward to
That must forage for food
That may never hear a kind word

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That looks for us if we leave the room
That hides for the thrill of a sneak attack
That climbs up the curtains
That loves us no matter how grumpy we are

WE PRAY FOR THE CAT
That has eyes that reflect pain and fear
That hides in alleys
That climbs to escape danger
That has never known love

We pray for cats that leap in play
and those that run because of fright
For those that stay out of trust
and those that try until they break
For those we never give up on
and those that don't get a second Chance

Embrace these tiny and not so tiny ones

Guard them

Protect them

And grant them a peace that only we as humans can deny them

Amen
